EVERYONES FAVOURITE EXERCISE…… BURPEE’S

Burpees

I have to say, the Burpee bodyweight exercise is one of the best all round strength and aerobic exercises. Nevertheless, it can be one of the most challenging when performed consecutively in a circuit routine. If I were to ask the majority of my clients what their worst exercise was, this would have to be on the top of the list! I have to say, I LOVE using this exercise as a cruel punishment if my clients or members who attend my PT sessions or classes are late or if they do not listen to me!!

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the exercise was named in the 1930s by American psychologist Royal H.Burpee, who developed the Burpee test. This particular test was so popular that the United States Armed Services has been described as using this method as a way to assess their fitness levels.

The burpee can be performed in many different ways to increase or decrease the difficulty of the move, however in the end it has been described as the ultimate full body exercise. With each repetition you will work your chest, arms, front deltoids, thighs, hamstrings and abs.

Finally, the Burpee can also be used as an excellent fat burning exercise and studies have shown that it burns up to 50% of body fat compared to the traditional strength exercise.
